Be Open and Honest with Your Trainer

Just like any relationship, open and honest communication is one of the most important aspects. When you’re working initially with a trainer, they’ll most likely ask you questions about your goals and your lifestyle. These can seem rather basic, but they help the trainer come up with a plan that is more customized to you. For example, if your trainer is asking you to complete morning workouts, but you think you would do better working out at night, speak up! If they’re asking you to incorporate a type of food into your diet, and you’ve never liked this food, let them know! Be open and honest with your trainer, in the end it will help both you and the trainer, making it a win-win!

Find What You Like and What You Don’t

Going hand in hand with open communication, throughout the journey, you’re going to find foods, exercises, and other things that you may not like or may not be working for you. If you’re struggling, be honest with yourself and your trainer. Fitness is not one-size-fits all, and due to everyone having different bodies, metabolisms, health concerns, and more, somethings that work for other people may not work for you, and that’s okay! You’re also more likely to continue by doing things that you like, creating a healthier lifestyle that you’ll want to do!

Understand How Food Fuels You

Take a minute to understand how food and exercise can fuel you. Our society has taken food and exercise and has sometimes twisted it to be something that you do as a punishment in order to lose weight or burn off the calories of “bad food.” People tend to use food and exercise as a way to get rid of something, when in reality it actually fuels our bodies. Ask your trainer or learn more about the foods you’re consuming and exercises you do, and learn about all the positives they do! You’d probably be surprised to see how much your favorite foods are doing for you and your body. Remember that food and exercise are not the enemy!

Find a Trainer Who Respects You and Your Wants

The process of working with a trainer and implementing a healthier lifestyle can be hard, which is why it's important to find a person that you like. You will want your trainer to respect you, just as you respect them. Know that you’re becoming a team and part of being a team is that you listen to each other. If you’re working together and feeling uncomfortable or feel like you’re being pushed into sales or other things you don’t like, find a different trainer. At Minibeast, we respect and work with all of our clients to find what works best for them!
